The practice
Extend your sense of things outward — the room, the country, the earth, out to whatever you take the furthest limit to be — and hold all of it as one thing rather than as many. Not many objects located in one space: one whole, of which the objects are features.
What it works on
The counterpart to the practices that dissolve. Nothing here is taken away; the multiplicity is simply not granted, and the text calls what follows the great awakening.
Notes
- Easier to hold if you build it outward in stages rather than starting at the limit.
Practise gently
Shoonyaka offers educational and contemplative material, not medical, psychological or religious authority. Nothing here diagnoses or treats any condition. Stop any practice that leaves you dizzy, frightened or unwell, and treat a strong reaction as a reason to rest rather than to push on.
