The practice
With the mind quiet, consider your own body firmly as consisting of awareness rather than of matter. When that is steady, extend the same consideration to everything else. Hold it as a plain description rather than as a hopeful idea.
What it works on
The word the verse uses is firmly. This is not a visualisation and not a wish; it is a proposition held without wavering until the way things appear reorganises itself around it.
Notes
- Start with the body. Starting with the universe usually produces a thought rather than a practice.
Practise gently
Shoonyaka offers educational and contemplative material, not medical, psychological or religious authority. Nothing here diagnoses or treats any condition. Stop any practice that leaves you dizzy, frightened or unwell, and treat a strong reaction as a reason to rest rather than to push on.
