About this stotram
This verse is the most widely used beginning invocation in Indian practice. It is short, easy to memorise, and traditionally chanted once, three times or nine times before anything new is started.
How to recite
- Sit for a moment before you begin the task you are about to start.
- Chant the verse once slowly, then once more at the same pace.
- Rest for two natural breaths.
- Begin the work without rushing the transition.
Notes
- Often paired with the mantra Om Gam Ganapataye Namah.
- Traditionally chanted an odd number of times; one careful repetition is enough.
Practise gently
Shoonyaka offers educational and devotional material, not medical, psychological or religious authority. Recite at a volume and pace that stays comfortable, and stop if the breath shortens or the throat hurts.
