The practice
Look at people. Everything about them differs — bodies, histories, opinions, moods. Now hold that the awareness by which each of them is looking out is not one of the differing things. Same in them, same in you, with no join anywhere.
What it works on
The plainest of the non-dual contemplations and the easiest to verify against experience, which is why it works well as an entry point. The text says a person who understands this is victorious over the ordinary way of seeing.
Notes
- Practise it in a crowd — a train, a queue, a waiting room.
Practise gently
Shoonyaka offers educational and contemplative material, not medical, psychological or religious authority. Nothing here diagnoses or treats any condition. Stop any practice that leaves you dizzy, frightened or unwell, and treat a strong reaction as a reason to rest rather than to push on.
