The practice
Choose one name and repeat it, aloud or silently, without gaps. Keep it going while walking, waiting, working — anywhere the mind would otherwise wander. Do not attend to meaning. Let the repetition become continuous enough that it goes on slightly without you.
What it works on
This is japa, and it is the one dharana in the text that most directly matches what most people already recognise as devotional practice. Continuity is the whole instruction: an unbroken thread does what a hundred separated repetitions cannot.
Notes
- Shoonyaka has a mala counter and six mantras if you would like structure around this.
- The name matters far less than the not-stopping.
Practise gently
Shoonyaka offers educational and contemplative material, not medical, psychological or religious authority. Nothing here diagnoses or treats any condition. Stop any practice that leaves you dizzy, frightened or unwell, and treat a strong reaction as a reason to rest rather than to push on.
