The practice
Consider each part of the body in turn — skin, muscle, bone, organs — and in each case let space run through it rather than around it. Not a hollow body, but a body whose every constituent is mostly gap. Work slowly through the whole of yourself and then rest in the result.
What it works on
Where the previous dharana empties one part, this empties the material itself. The distinction matters: the practice is not imagining a shell, it is imagining porousness everywhere at once.
Notes
- Working head to foot, or foot to head, keeps you from skipping regions.
Practise gently
Shoonyaka offers educational and contemplative material, not medical, psychological or religious authority. Nothing here diagnoses or treats any condition. Stop any practice that leaves you dizzy, frightened or unwell, and treat a strong reaction as a reason to rest rather than to push on.
