The practice
Sit and stop supplying thoughts. Not suppressing the ones that come, but ceasing to originate any — declining to begin, continue, finish or elaborate. When the supply stops, the mind is left with nothing holding it up. Remain there.
What it works on
The distinction between stopping thoughts and refusing to feed them is the whole practice. The first is a fight, and unwinnable. The second is a withdrawal of cooperation, and the text says the self becomes the supreme self through it.
Notes
- Thoughts will still arrive. Do not treat their arrival as failure — only decline to take them further.
Practise gently
Shoonyaka offers educational and contemplative material, not medical, psychological or religious authority. Nothing here diagnoses or treats any condition. Stop any practice that leaves you dizzy, frightened or unwell, and treat a strong reaction as a reason to rest rather than to push on.
