Keep this page visible during practice. Shoonyaka requests screen wake lock where supported; a locked device may delay the closing bell.

The practice

Rather than picturing space around you, take yourself to be it. Not a person sitting in openness — openness with no person in it, extending without limit in every direction. Hold that as a plain fact rather than an image, and stay.

What it works on

The difference between this and the earlier space practices is the identification. There the space is attended to; here it is what you are. The text says what follows is seeing your own form as unsupported awareness.

Notes

  • The word to hold onto is unlimited. As soon as it has an edge, it has become a picture again.

Practise gently

Shoonyaka offers educational and contemplative material, not medical, psychological or religious authority. Nothing here diagnoses or treats any condition. Stop any practice that leaves you dizzy, frightened or unwell, and treat a strong reaction as a reason to rest rather than to push on.
